The Liberty Place development is a major
urban intervention in the heart of the CBD.
Rather than building to the limits of the site
the architects have created a new public plaza
and through-site link, around which they have
skilfully arranged a series of fine-grained retail,
heritage, and low-rise office buildings. The
plaza provides a vibrant new public space, a
pedestrian link between Castlereagh Street
and Pitt Street and forms an inviting entry
forecourt to the new 42-level ANZ tower.
The tower is carefully sited to maximise sun
penetration into Hyde Park. The architects
have exploited the resulting triangular floor
plate to optimise and focus views from the
office levels to the harbour. The office floors
are efficiently planned and are wrapped in a
thermally efficient skin of glass and louvres.
The frontage to Castlereagh Street reinforces
existing street wall heights and predominant
building materials. Sustainability issues have
been considered throughout all facets of the
project resulting in a 6 star rating for the tower
development.
