Five Martin Place is a masterful example of

              strategic, design-led planning, which initially

resulted in an intelligent, site specific building

              envelope resolving urban, heritage and

              commercial aspects that had hitherto

              proven insoluble.

The built project not only executes the intent

of the strategic planning piece as a powerful

and deliberate architectural work, it also

breathes new life into Martin Place, Pitt Street

and perhaps most surprisingly, the previously

              uninhabited service laneway network. The

project also provides controlled public access

through the building at street level, revealing a

              number of significant art works.

Anticipating the City of Sydney’s ongoing

laneway renewal and lending clues and cues

for neighbouring sites, the project treats every

interface with the public realm as a precious

              moment to civilise the city.
